About Night Market

Cut the canvas into stalls and every stall plays. Each cut is at the golden ratio, and each stall runs its own spiral, pan flutes and kotos and marimbas after dark.

• Click to cut a stall in two. Right-click to join stalls back.
• Every cut is golden. Each stall splits into a square and a smaller golden rectangle, the classic nautilus construction.
• Size is speed. Big stalls play slow and low. Small stalls play fast and high. Every stall shares one clock, so any layout grooves.
• Corner is instrument. Flutes top-left, kotos top-right, marimbas bottom-right, kalimbas bottom-left. The biggest stalls are always the bass.
• Depth is the chair. Cut deeper in a corner and the next instrument of that section joins in. Pan flute, then shakuhachi, then ocarina. Marimba, then woodblock, then tom. The deeper you go, the drummier.
• Big stalls hum. They hold a chord tone under their notes and move together on each chord change.
• Each stall has its own motif. A rhythm and a shape from its section, so stalls interlock rather than double.
• Pieces is your budget. Cut past it and your oldest cut heals itself.
• Whitewash clears the canvas.
