About Sunseed

A golden-section paint toy that plays itself. Click the canvas to split it at the golden ratio; every pane becomes a spiral, and the tiling you paint is the arrangement.

• Click to split. Each cut divides a pane at φ into a square plus a smaller golden rectangle, the classic construction. Right-click merges panes back.
• Where you cut is the instrument. The canvas is a stage, left to right: deep strings, harmony, melody, bells. A pane’s height sets its register.
• How big is the pace. Vast panes are slow four-bar voices; slivers race by. Every pane shares one clock, so any painting grooves.
• Dig for more. The deeper you subdivide a zone, the deeper its roster. Flute becomes oboe becomes violin, and seven cuts down you strike that family’s drums.
• The spiral is the score. Dots ride each pane’s nautilus and light up the instant their note sounds; a grand spiral threads the whole painting with a lead.
• The sun conducts. Drag the fader up the left edge to slide the whole piece from phrygian dusk to lydian noon. The light, the mood and the mode all move with it.
• Hover to perform. Rest on any pane and it sings a live line in its own voice. Sweep the canvas and you play it by hand.
• Paint has a budget. Twenty-one pieces; carve past it and your oldest cut quietly heals, so noodling does and undoes the music like a tide.
• Five worlds. Orchestral, chiptune, gamelan, nocturne, synthwave, each restyling every voice. Guide shows the workings; seed plants a starting shape; share saves the whole thing to a link.
